As a latecomer to the wedding industry, I’m extremely grateful to be recognized by The Knot as a One to Watch wedding planner. This honor is proof that it’s never too late to start your career anew and that with hard work and motivation, we can do anything we put our minds to!
Originally from England, I grew up with a love of travel, people, and culture, as well as an appreciation for art, good food, and great conversation. As a child, I would fall asleep to the sound of my parents throwing dinner parties and entertaining guests. My father was a British diplomat, and my mother – who is an artist – was the consummate host. When my parents entertained, everyone got dressed up, and there was always delicious food, soft lighting, and the loveliest of details such as pretty linens and flowers.
After graduating, I didn’t immediately become a wedding planner. Instead, after moving to the US, I spent over 20 years working in corporate marketing for big tech companies. But, after the experience of planning my own wedding, it was clear to me that couples could benefit from my organizational background, appreciation for design and love of entertaining. Additionally, as a former corporate executive, I knew what it was like to be extremely busy. No couple should have to take on a second “full time” job of planning a wedding when they have other pressing responsibilities. With this realization, one thing led to another, and eventually, I founded HauteFêtes six years ago, eponymously named for the events I produce: fashionably elegant, high-end parties.
Today, I’m really focused on my couples’ journey to the aisle. I also firmly believe that design is in the details – and boy, am I detail oriented! My proudest moments have always been about how my clients (and their guests) feel when they see and experience their wedding; their vision coming to life, inspired by each couple’s unique love story! It’s so exciting to be recognized for that. What makes this honor even more special is that it’s recognition from a body comprised of editors, peers, and respected industry experts.
