Saying “yes” to a forever with your fiance was probably a no-brainer, but one of the decisions that might not come so easily? Who to invite to your wedding!
You’ve probably dreamt about your special day for so long that you already have an idea of what wedding dress you’ll wear, what type of flowers you’ll carry, and what you want your first wedding dance song to be. But have you considered who you want to celebrate with when your special day comes?
Whether you’re planning a small, intimate affair or a large-scale wedding, trying to decide who should be included in your special day can feel like a daunting task. You might not even be sure where or when to begin when it comes to creating your wedding guest list— and that’s okay! As a wedding planner, I have some suggestions to help you decide who should be on your invitation list.
I always recommend creating your guest list early in the wedding planning process. Your guest count helps you and your wedding planner determine which venues will be able to accommodate your reception. Having a guest count in mind will also give you a better sense of your wedding budget.
As for who to include on your wedding guest list, I suggest starting with the people closest to you. Immediate family members and close friends will be at the top of your list! From there, you’ll want to work your way out and determine who should be included.
Of course, there are many other factors to take into consideration when it comes to creating a guest list. For example, the bride or groom’s parents may be contributing to the cost. Should they be able to invite their friends to the wedding? Should you have a B list in mind? Should you allow all of your guests to bring a plus one?
